This is one of my favorite books. Perl, who also wrote books on American and Austrian foods and festivals, puts her anthropological curiosity into studying the foods and festivals of Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Israel, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, and North Africa. In 1967, basically no one was writing about food anthropology in such a delightful way; she discusses customs from pre-history to modern times, and adds some recipes to boot. Some chipping & rubbing to jacket extremities, else very good.
